Late-Breaking Milwaukee Show News
Watch a Chair Take Shape
Kentucky based furniture maker Brian Boggs will build a three-slat ladder-back side chair, in Cherry wood. On Saturday, hand tools such as drawknives and spokeshaves will be used to bring pieces to their final shape. How to size the tenons to fit the mortices exactly will then be demonstrated.
The precise and fascinating process of drilling the holes for the rung mortices will commence on Sunday morning. This will be the only time a power tool is used. Chair assembly will follow and, if time permits, the pining of the slats and weaving of the hickory bark seat.
Purchase Tiffany Postage Stamp
The Louis Comfort Tiffany 41-cent commemorative stamp will be officially unveiled to the Milwaukee market at 9:30 Saturday morning before the show opens. It will be on sale at the show throughout the weekend. The stamp features an image of a leaded Favrile-glass window designed by Tiffany. The stamp pays tribute to all of Tiffany’s artistry and is the seventh in the U.S. Postal Service American Treasures series that showcase beautiful works of American fine art and crafts.
