DESCRIPTION
I began my professional career as a graphic designer. After 10 years in the business, I was frustrated, disillusioned and unemployed. Having turned to home and hearth for respite, I set out to make a rock path in my garden and discovered a knack for mosaic.

“I found I had this ability to glance at the path and instinctively choose the ‘right’ rock to fill each space. I didn’t know I knew how to do that; it gave me chills.”

Further work with mosaics and a penchant for precision led me to discover my current medium – painted eggshells.

“To make the miniature mosaics I wanted, I needed a material that could provide tiny pieces and would be readily available. I never run out of eggshells to paint.”

After sterilizing the shells, I brush-paint each one inside and out with custom-mixed, oil-based enamels. After they dry for a couple of weeks, I carefully break them into tiny pieces and apply the pieces, one by one, with tweezers to a sculpture or jewelry piece.

Nine years after the rock path, my days are spent in my home studio, painting and breaking eggshells, enjoying the meditative process of mosaic – choosing just the right piece for the right space – and promoting my work. Career highlights include seeing my work in books and magazines, making limited edition mosaic keepsake boxes for 50 Oscar nominees at the 2004 Academy Awards and creating a mosaic Easter egg for The White House in 2005. Visit www.eggshellmosaics.com to learn more, to commission a mosaic sculpture, or to shop for wearable mosaics. Thanks for your interest in my work.

Sincerely,
Sherri Lindsay
