SHOWS
2008 Fine Furnishings & Fine Craft Show - PROVIDENCE

PRODUCT CATEGORIES
Furniture - Contemporary

DESCRIPTION
The simplicity and sophistication of David Sears’ designs are generated through the materials and construction methods used, and his interest in structural forms and modularity carried over from his work in architecture, where the frame and panel concept is always present but rarely expressed on a human scale.

David’s choice of materials parallels the design process, reinvigorating the relationship between design and craft. His interest in materials lies in both their final form and how their qualities inspire the design choices along the way. This methodology gives the materials an active role in the design of each piece, ensuring their best qualities are accentuated and celebrated.

David’s process for building the first piece of furniture in a modular system is direct. The selected proportions are identified and carried through the entire design. Once the prototype is created, it is used to identify future changes to the handcrafted detailing. The result is an heirloom piece of furniture; a design that will appeal to and beautifully weather many generations.
